Water is one of the great issues of our times, an issue that will define our legacy. Water is essential to life in every aspect  – and yet easily spoiled if we do not take the time to appreciate, understand, and preserve it.

Understanding this, in 2013, Des Moines Water Works, in conjunction with the Des Moines Water Works Park Foundation, launched a Master Plan to create a roadmap for the future of Water Works Park, a 1,500-acre urban park – one of the largest in the nation – and a critical source for drinking water to 500,000 central Iowans. The plan aims to grow the Park into a national treasure that celebrates clean water by not only conserving land and enhancing the Park’s innovative natural water filtration system, but also offering more recreational opportunities – such as a large concert venue, an aerial park and kayaking – that will invite visitors from across the state and around the nation to engage in clean water education. By combining these essential park functions with the educational mission, the power of the park becomes its ability to transform the way we, as a culture and community, think about water and act to protect it.

Within this site we will introduce you to Water Works Park, the Master Plan and those charged with spearheading this next chapter in our clean water story. Please accept this as our invitation to get involved in any way you feel you can contribute. A project of this magnitude, both in scope and impact, can only be realized through the efforts of our entire community. We look forward to working with you to make it a reality.

Cheers to the next chapter in clean water,
